Taylor Hanson On The Future And Valuing Intellectual Property

The songwriter and producer explains that artists must make sure the future defines intellectual property in ways that get them fair compensation.

Songwriter/producer Taylor Hanson, sat with Texas Chapter at the 2014 GRAMMY Block Party in Austin and spoke about the importance of establishing fair compensation for people making a living in music, especially valuing intellectual property, content and ideas. "Artists are making something that's real, they've made something real from the beginning," he said. Hanson believes the future should be based on "valuing content, valuing intellection property, valuing ideas," and that "artists need to realize there is a future." Who gets to define that future is why he believes artists must be fairly compensated so they can afford to do their work. Hanson said, "There's no job, there's no industry without someone creating music."
