Jesse Malin Talks Lollapalooza, Influences, New EP

"As a little kid, I used to ride around in my parents' car and Elton John would come on the radio," said Malin on one of his primary influences. "I was so impressed with these melodies that were sad and poppy and beautiful."

New York-based singer/songwriter Jesse Malin discusses his 2017 Lollapalooza set, life on tour, the deep backstory behind writing his new EP, Meet Me At The End Of The World, and some of his primary songwriting influences, including Elton John, Ryan Adams, Paul Westerberg, and Sam Cooke.

"As a little kid, I used to ride around in my parents' car and Elton John would come on the radio," said Malin. "I was so impressed with these melodies that were sad and poppy and beautiful. And then when I got to see the lyrics ... and I would read along, and I'd be like, 'Wow, you can have these songs that are kind of beautiful and charming but then have these very dark, angry lyrics that really tell something about humanity."
