Paul McCartney and animator Eric Wylam completed the film The Bruce McMouse Show in 1977, but put on a shelf... until now. The unearthed rarity featuring adorable animated mice who live beneath the 1972 stage where Wings performed will see it's first-ever screening in theaters will be on Jan. 21.

The film was directed by Barry Chattington. Joining Linda McCartney, his wife at the time, and Paul on the voiceovers for the mice are Pat Coombs, Deryck Guyler, and Derek Nimmo. One can imagine that concert promoters would not celebrate the idea of mice in the audience, but that's the finale after Bruce McMouse's storytelling is interrupted by his son rushing in to tell his family Wings is performing above their heads. Now the tale will play out for audiences on the big screen more than 40 years after its completion.

At the 14th GRAMMY Awards for 1971 Paul and Linda's "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey" from their album Ram brought Paul a win as arranger for Best Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s). For The Bruce McMouse Show, the 1972 footage from four shows in Germany and the Netherlands is edited into a more fictional performance above the home of the mice. But nothing can obscure the energy and adorable youth of McCartney in this period, with the 1973 Wings album Band On The Run still ahead.
