Troy Carter, whose company Atom Factory is overseeing Prince's estate, revealed some exciting news for fans of the late musical icon in a recent interview with Variety, saying, "Last week, the release of “Nothing Compares 2 U” was the first piece of music to come from our collaboration with the estate, and now we’re working on a release for the fall — a full-length album."

When Prince passed away unexpectedly in 2016, he left no will behind, and thus his vault of unreleased recordings had to be drilled into as only Prince knew the code. What his estate's archivists found behind the vault door was enough new music to release a new album every year for the next century.

"Prince recorded and rehearsed and performed constantly, and he taped everything, so once you think you’ve gotten close [to finding everything], you find new things," said Carter.

The video of the original version of "Nothing Compares 2 U" comes complete with never-before-seen rehearsal footage from Prince & The Revolution from summer of 1984, providing a glimpse at the type of behind-the-scenes gold the vault contains.

The estate also debuted two new websites to commemorate the two-year anniversary of Prince's death. One is a deep dive into his discography, and the other is a forum site called "Prince2me" where fans can share their remembrances.

With so much material left unheard, the release of a new full-length begs the question of what's next?

"I don’t wanna give it all away," Carter says. "We still have to preserve some surprises, but after the excitement around [“Compares”], we felt, “Let’s give the fans something else this year.”
