Jimmy Iovine

• Born James “Jimmy” Iovine on March 11, 1953, in Brooklyn, New York.

• Iovine’s engineering and producing career started in his late teens at Record Plant recording studio in New York City. He learned the tips of the trade from engineer and producer Roy Cicala while working with major hitmakers like John Lennon, Bruce Springsteen, Patti Smith, Stevie Nicks, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Dire Straits, and the Pretenders.

• He co-founded Interscope Records in 1990 and launched the careers of GRAMMY-winning artists such as Dr. Dre, Eminem, No Doubt, Nine Inch Nails, Mary J. Blige, Lady Gaga, and Kendrick Lamar.

• Iovine was honored by the Recording Academy’s Producers & Engineers Wing during GRAMMY Week 2012.

• In 2022, Iovine was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for his contributions to the music industry.

• As a businessman, Iovine co-founded the premium sound entertainment company Beats Electronics and the digital music streaming service Beats Music with Dr. Dre. Iovine is also an investor in Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg‘s ready-to-drink cocktail brand Gin & Juice By Dre and Snoop.

• After receiving an honorary doctorate of music from the University of Southern California, Iovine, alongside Dr. Dre, established new college and high school education models focused on technology, the arts and business innovation. The duo created the USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy in 2013 and the Iovine and Young Center in 2022.
