About BTS
Since debuting in 2013, BTS has transformed from a hip-hop–inspired Korean act into one of the most influential global music groups of the 21st century, driven by introspective storytelling, genre-blending production, and an unusually direct relationship with fans. Albums such as Love Yourself: Tear, Map of the Soul: 7, and Be produced worldwide hits including “Dynamite,” “Butter,” and “Life Goes On,” helping the group become the first Korean act to top both the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard 200 multiple times. BTS also became the first K-pop act to receive Grammy nominations, ultimately earning five Grammy nominations, a milestone that reshaped how the Western music industry views Korean-language music and Asian pop artists. Beyond chart dominance, the group is widely credited with normalizing deeply personal themes — mental health, identity, burnout, and self-worth — within mainstream pop, while maintaining creative involvement in songwriting and production, an uncommon trait among global idol groups. A lesser-known detail admired by longtime fans is that the “Love Yourself” era was partially inspired by literary and psychological themes, including Carl Jung’s theories explored further in the “Map of the Soul” series, giving BTS’s discography an intellectual continuity rarely seen in contemporary pop music.
