About Annie Lennox

  • Born Ann Lennox on Dec. 25, 1954, in Aberdeen, Scotland
     
  • Lennox rose to fame when she teamed with Dave Stewart in 1980 to form the Eurythmics. She then went on to launch a successful solo career in 1992 with the release of Diva. The album, which charted at No. 23 on the Billboard 200, spawned the hits "Why" and "Walking On Broken Glass."
     
  • Lennox won her first career GRAMMY with the Eurythmics for 1986 for Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal for "Missionary Man." The duo made their GRAMMY stage debut at the 26th GRAMMY Awards in 1984, performing their hit "Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)."
     
  • Did you know? In 2014 Lennox and Stewart reunited as the Eurythmics reunited for "The Night That Changed America: A GRAMMY Salute To The Beatles," a GRAMMY TV special celebrating the 50th anniversary of the group's appearance on "The Ed Sullivan Show." They performed the Beatles' classic "The Fool On The Hill."
     
  • In 2014 Lennox visited the GRAMMY Museum to discuss her career and her 2014 studio album, Nostalgia.
     
  • Lennox is an esteemed philanthropist, having supported a variety of charitable endeavors such as Amnesty International, Greenpeace and her own SING campaign, which aims to raise funds and awareness for issues surrounding HIV/AIDS. In 2011 Lennox was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II for her "tireless charity campaigns and championing of humanitarian causes."
